Eating Disorders

There are many reasons why people have eating disorders. Usually a person lacks self confidence and life feels traumatic and a person can have a very low self esteem. Often they have a fear of the future. Oasis can help people through these very difficult times and our counsellors are completely non judgmental.

Self Harm

Some times the pain of life can be so over bearing it seems that there is no ending to it. Life become so unbearable that the only way to survive is to mask the real pain by self harming. We can talk through these issues with you in order for you to begin to deal with the issues and at the same time help you to plan a better future.

Domestic Abuse

Oasis has seen many victims of domestic violence. The police have said that cases are not reported to the police until the sufferer has been abused for almost 40 times. There is no need to suffer alone and we can help you in many ways. Just contact us.

RelationshipsRelationship

The most common causes for relationships to fail are a lack of communication and sexual issues. All of these (and other reasons) can be resolved by discussing it with our counsellors. Many relationships fail after a few years with a devastating affect on the family especially the children. It is worth working together to find a way forward.

Stress

We live in times where stress is all around us; at work, in the home and families and even in our social lives. Stress can seriously affect our health. Our counsellors are able to work with you to find the cause of your stress and then help you to find a solution and a way forward.

Sexual Abuse

Many children and young people have experienced abuse from members of the family. Sometimes this has never been

acknowledged and is still a major issue in adult life. Very often there is a sense of guilt and the feeling that in some way they are to blame. We can work through these feelings with you. We can help people who have been raped as well.

Prison workPrison Work

The centre works in a prison with prisoners who are mostly foreign nationals. Some have and are experiencing great trauma and have been the victims of torture in their lives. Oasis endeavours to support them by providing appropriate counselling.

BereavementBereavement

The loss of a relative or close friend can be very upsetting, sometimes you can feel angry and want to blame someone for what has happened. We have trained counsellors who are able to talk through these issues with you and help you move on through your grieving process.

Anger

When born, we are all given the primary emotion of anger, together with other emotions like;  joy, surprise, fear etc.   It is important we own our anger and express it appropriately.  Trained counsellors will work through anger issues with their clients, and give them practical tools on how to manage this emotion effectively.

Personality Disorder

A personality disorder is a condition, state or set of behaviours which somehow differs from what we would call ‘normal'; a deviation from the traditional and acceptable norms of the person's culture.   There are a number of models the counsellor may use, but ultimately the therapeutic relationship is key.

Trauma

In a safe, supportive world, a child's mind develops with the reassuring belief that they are loved and cared for.  They have a sense of security, where they are comforted, soothed and told ‘everything is going to be alright'.  This unfortunately is not always the case for some children growing up.  The therapeutic relationship between counsellor/client is key, where the counsellor will journey with the client, and listen to and hear their story, and give the client a voice, they may never have had in the past.

Depression

Depression is a worldwide phenomenon that affects individuals of all ages, appears to be increasing among teenagers and young adults, and disrupts the lives of millions of people.  It is important that we understand what the cause or root of the depression is, explore in detail, and together manage, while at the same time enabling the client to function in daily life.

Debt Advice

The world financial system is currently very unstable with people borrowing more than they are able to pay back. Negative equity is a reality once again. Debt can lead to very stressful situations in the home. We are able to help you manage your debt by helping you to prepare a budget and to negotiate with your creditors. We can also talk through the reasons why a person gets themselves into debt.

The chaplain of the prison says “Pastoral support is sometimes not sufficient when there has been trauma and deep distress. Knowing we can offer a professional counselling service gives us hope that prisoners can be assisted and empowered to deal with difficulties and distress in their lives and face the future with hope”
